There are a lot of code style settings to potentially look through and change. If we save changes to the code style, when we format the code IntelliJ IDEA will reformat the code to the new style.

IntelliJ Text Editing Shortcuts These IntelliJ shortcuts for moving, deleting, copying, selecting, and formatting are great for editing text. The preview on the right shows what selecting this setting will do to the code, so we can experiment with these settings to see which one we want. The following IntelliJ shortcuts are for opening resources, types, lines, files, and switching tabs.

If we want to specify that if statements should always have curly braces, we go into Wrapping and Braces and force if statements to always have curly braces. When we change the settings, they will be saved to this scheme. We can duplicate the default code style settings and save them with a useful name. However, if we do have code that doesnвЂ™t meet the projectвЂ™s standards, we can ask IntelliJ IDEA to format it.ДЇor (int i = 0 i Code Style -> Java (for our case), weвЂ™ll see all the formatting options. The same applies if we use other shortcuts like в‡§вЏЋ to move to the next line, or use code generation.Д®ven if we take copy some code that is inconsistently formatted and paste it into the editor, IntelliJ IDEA will format this code to the projectвЂ™s standards. When we press this shortcut on a symbol or selection we are shown the refactoring options available. For example, if we press enter the caret goes into the correct place for us to start typing. Most of the automated refactorings in IntelliJ IDEA have their own shortcuts, but we can access all of them with one shortcut: T (MacOS) or Shift+Ctrl+Alt+T (Windows/Linux). Generally weвЂ™ll find while coding that we donвЂ™t need to manually format our code, IntelliJ IDEA does its best to do the right thing automatically. This provides an easy way for people to skim the content quickly if they prefer reading to watching, and to give the reader/watcher code samples and links to additional information.
